Major Updates

Upgrading from one major version of the OS to another e.g. Leopard 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6 is not very different to minor upgrades. You can just insert your new DVD and run the installer. However, we recommend that you follow the steps 1 to 8 in the previous step but then in part 9, insert the Leopard DVD and restart from that - this time you do run the installer.

There are usually three types of update available on the DVD. You can normally just use the simple upgrade. If you are experiencing problems before the upgrade then an Archive & Install or even an Erase & Install may be beneficial but those are beyond the scope of this tutorial.
